And The Curtains Fall

DSCN2715

The World is a stage,
A big life lasts for nights..
A small,
play folds up in first-half.

The roles we play are reflections,
Shades of few emotions.
Yet we never fail to claim,
The players turn critic, winners only they should determine.

You judge me, I will do the same,
No questions asked, cuz it takes turn.
For you think the best of me,
I will give another the pain to become perfection.

I stand in a corner, with a frugal parchment,
Few words of assent, the rest is all blank.
As long as script flows, commendations overwhelming,
After a while, the free spirit descends into training

I don’t want to play,
Of vanity or joy or shame,
Of bondage or anything humane,
No more pretenses and perfection,
The soul craves for freedom.

Eternal plays, acts of reflections,
Inane I was And I would vanish from all.
I watch mine with an ethereal heart,
And the curtains fall.

An Afternoon Song

DSCN2196

A walk in late afternoon
Solitude would be vague,
I shared the company with a song bird
Spring colors around, water took the bait

Wind and water playing little games,
Tiny waves everywhere and Sun too joined in,
Scintillating ripples and scattered diamonds
Wish I could just touch them

The peace, the depth
The sparkles, the hope
The life, the joy
The me, the Might

The Questions, with no answers
Whispers in the breeze, Don’t hold on..
without them you are better,
One day, the clock will be yours
And with closure will they return

The birdie finished it’s song
enlivened under the Sun,
my thoughts trailed back to world
The next minute may not change
But I will have my dauntless heart.

5 Photos-5 Stories pt1- ‘The Promise’

DSCN2692My 1st Fiction !!!

She was sitting in the beach staring at the vast empty ocean. All one could see was undulating chain of waves in a contest of reaching the shore and crashing against the rocks showing their might. Compared to the deadly night that passed, the sea was like a happy baby again frolicking around.

She closed her eyes. Will they be … ? Please God,may they return safe and sound. I will give 5 coconuts, I will worship you everyday. She said aloud,”Oh Ocean, Take all my wealth, just let them come home safely. “

A small wave far in the sea saw her and asked a big wave behind him,’Why is she standing there ? What does she need ?’ The big wave answered,’Yesterday evening,I had seen her bid farewell to her husband and son going for a fishing trip, last night storm created a massive destruction, and they are yet to return. She is getting despondent after seeing the debris of boats and storm’s reminiscence. She is unable to see from there, but you and I can see, a big wave is carrying forward a little boat and her prayers are about to be answered.

‘Can’t you give her a message ?’the little wave asked excitedly. The big wave said,”I will crash on the rocks and will be pushed back but you are small you can go gently forward as the rocks will give you way.” The little wave in excitement and joy moved on and on,slid between the rocks and touched the woman’s feet. The woman felt the coolness and saw the little wave clear without any dead twigs, the gentle swishing it made as if to say the sea meant no harm and suddenly she found her courage again.

A few moments later, she saw a familiar shape forming in the horizon, slowly getting bigger and bigger. Tears rolled down her eyes, as she heard the shouts from aboard. She untied the old black thread around her neck,in which a small gold pendant was attached in middle and with all her might, threw into the waves. ‘What did she do’ the little wave asked the big wave as they returned. The big wave said,The sea kept it’s promise and returned her love, she kept hers and returned all she had’

The Case of Missing Dumplings

Bachelor life is hard especially if you are a foodie. You don’t get much time to cook, you want to eat good and even if you have time, you lack half of the resources to make something nice to remind you of the luxuries of home. 🙂

I guess you realize how precious Mom’s food is. My mother has always been complimented for having excellent culinary skills and creativity. Naturally, my life was full of blissful favors. I left home for this drudgery in city and I crave for them all the time. When I returned from home after a mini-visit, Mom packed some home made snacks and a traditional sweet called ‘Suji Mandaa’ (Fried Semolina balls filled with shredded coconut inside). I was so busy in gobbling them last week that I actually forgot to take a snap ,hence this borrowed photo. They are identical to those of mom’s though.

I was nearing the end of my cache 😦 😦 and on the last Sunday morning, I ate up 4-5 and kept the last 3 for later evening in the fridge. The day passed, and I assume I forgot about it. Come Monday morning, I opened the fridge to enjoy them one final time and…. “WHERE WERE THEY ! ” 😦 😦

I have a very poor memory, I am aware but I can’t possibly forget an entire action of a just passed day ! I dredged into my mind again and again,I could remember of putting the packet inside fridge, no one visited, I recalled what I ate in dinner but I couldn’t remember myself opening the fridge, taking it out and eating and I couldn’t find the discarded empty packet too ! Normally, I try to retrace my steps slowly like on a road journey to counter my forgetfulness but nothing was working !

I know 3 is small number but when you can’t make it on your own and it’s made by mom’s happy hands, it’s priceless ! 😀 Flashback-I tried making them once here, and the round balls diffused into the oil rather than holding their shape and I ended up with Semolina Pool in Pan .

It’s been 2 days, I still can’t remember, I have searched and even if they existed in the house, they are spoiled now. I hope by any chance I have not kept them in odd places like clothes cabinet( a turbulent ocean btw, no thanks to my absent mindedness) which I guess I haven’t, all I do now is pine for those round balls of sweetness whom I couldn’t say Good Bye.

P.S Anyone interested in recipe, please click on the image 😀

The Day I Got Lost !

The last post on roundworldnme was a sad moment. The wait still continues and the melancholy period drama continues but..... Thank you very much for all the wishes, prayers and love you have shown me in these weeks,so instead of brooding over, I thought of thinking of some happy memories to make me smile and hope to make you smile as well. 🙂

———-

Everytime I see mini Sand sculptures,I get a vivid flash back, rain pouring and I am looking through a small window at the tall buildings.

I had just started going to nursery school and like any of you, was enjoying my time playing with classmates, holding color pencils, the whitest eraser and 3-striped notebooks . I was happy yet something was bugging me. Majority of the children came in school rickshaws, made of green shiny tins and wheels where as I was picked up everyday by Mom. As our house was nearby, either She carried me or we walked. I chatted with Mom everyday through the way about what I studied and whether or not I finished my lunch box or had a fight. I also told her about my fantasy  to sit in those rickshaws too. Mom did give me instructions on safety, strangers, hygiene etc etc but I guess I understood as much as a baby brain can.

One rainy day, it was pouring cats and dogs and school was over a bit early. Many children including me were waiting for parents to arrive and the students who came in rickshaws were hastily climbing into them to escape the rain. Always an impulsive creature, I don’t know what came over me but suddenly I entered one rickshaw. Everyone was wet, pushing against each other so the commotion made me unnoticeable. Off we went !!

The next two and half hours were the happiest moments of my life. I traveled from one stop to another, children got down one by one. I was peeking through the tiny window/skylight and seeing tall buildings. A 2-3 floors building was tall by my standards. When the last child and I remained, the rickshaw-wallah (driver) noticed me and was shocked. He asked me where did I live . I said, “My house is nearby and it’s next to a huge Sand Hill“.  I raised my hand as much as I could to show how huge the hill was.

So,we dropped the last child at his stop and then begin a search for the so called ‘nearby’ house. The Sand hill which I mentioned was actually few bags of sand deposited next to my house for some construction work where I played everyday. He paddled and I delightfully continued exclaiming over the big buildings, we went to the oldest part of town where the buildings were ornate and I always thought they were palaces of kings.

After a frantic search in rain where one could barely see faces, the rickshaw driver finally realized that I didn’t know where my home was and he gained the wisdom to return me back to school. As we approached the school gate, I could make out my Mom’s drenched figure, wiping her face full of tears. Till this moment, I hadn’t cried once but I guess crying is contagious especially when one sees Mother, so I started sobbing too. A tearful dramatic reunion. 🙂

There were no mobile phones in 90s and even Landlines were rare. My mom had alarmed school, and as the school had a phone they called my Dad in bank who set out for my search with few friends. I was a favorite of the Principal Ma’m Joleta, so her two sons had also joined the search for me. It was her elder son Valentine who found me mid-way returning and carried the news forward of my safe arrival.

Those were the days, when you could actually trust people. Today….just read the newspaper. Anyways, rain had stopped. In morning I was choking with cold but Mom says after my afternoon venture, the rain somehow washed it away and bedraggled and excited, I trotted with mom with a clean nose 😀 And I cheerfully recounted the whole way about so many things I saw, our regular fruit vendor, the temple, the palace, even a XYZ uncle’s house 😉

All’s Well That Ends Well,right !

What Does A Wait Sound Like ?

Hello Everyone,in these few weeks,I am going through extremely busy/hard times.I will be sporadically coming online in WP,please excuse me as I won’t be able to catch up with you sooner 😦

What Does A Wait Sound Like ?

Mistakes echo in my ears
Till my eyes brim with tears
I watch as efforts fade into oblivion
Where’s the Door of Salvation

Errors are part of life
Did they think twice
Before delivering the trite
That they can become a whole life

Relentless fighting with happy outcomes
Yet no takers cause it’s faults that counts
I can be more than me
A chance is all you have to give

Somehow my face or my words
And you forget, was I even there..
Every new beginning needs a footstone to start
Only now it seems covered with mosses and dirt

Dare I hope ?
Against all the opposing winds so far
My clothes are soiled but inside I am still the person
Tell Me Oh God, will I see the rising Sun ?

Colors

cooltext1879394781
M Back !!! After some ‘Me’ time 😀 Did nothing much and the grey skies in winter were not fun friendly though. But apart from that devoted myself to indulge me 😀
Many Thanks and Hugs for the sweet likes and comments post my absence and just being there ❤ Boy,how did I miss you All !!!
And we meet on Saturday Science(GK ?, give me a good name for it anyone)
And today,it’s about COLORS (in a weird way) :-
  • Men & Women perceive the color ‘Red’ differently. Because the gene that detects red is present in X chromosome and women have two ‘X’ (XX) where as men have only one ‘X’ (XY) , hence women have twice better reception of red and its shades than men.(Morale: Never ask Men about what you look good in,unless you want the answer,”Everything looks good on you !” )
  • Our Universe has a color too ! The term used for color of universe is ‘Cosmic latte‘ . And the average color of our universe is beigeish white. ( And we saw the red/blue/bright whites in Space movies)
  • Yellow and Orange colors are appetite simulators. So, yellow food or yellow designed walls, and you wondered how did I slipped from diet !
  • Technically, Color may not exist at all. It is something created by our brains when it tries to process the overwhelming amount of information it receives. So, should you ever find yourself in a heated debate over color combinations with someone is simply colorblind or doesn’t know colors, keep in mind that it is a pointless argument and you’re both wrong. This is an actual philosophical debate of Qualia which is yet to be solved.
  • When you combine all the colors of light, you get ‘White’ color.
Time for another mini-quiz(it’s anonymous,so don’t stop guessing! ),answer next Saturday in Saturday Stories 😀

Have a great Weekend 😀

The Perfect Sign

Saturday Stories

Ok,First the answer to Thursday Gks-Sound mini quiz(Why do we hear ‘sound of the ocean’ in a seashell ? ) Answer- (Local noises around you that are altered by the shell)

Your responses—-Ques01

What happens is generally we hear different sounds around us and acquainted with it.The sea-shell suppresses certain sound(certain frequencies) around us and passes some sounds of other frequencies. The new mixture of sounds is what you haven’t heard before and hence the brain registers this sound as something different and we label it as ‘Sound of Ocean’.

Winners ,Congratulations 😀

I have decided to alternate Saturday stories and the Gks,one Saturday, story… the next Saturday Gks,anyone having a good title for Saturday GKs,please please tell me. Next Gk, next Saturday.

The Perfect Sign

In a small town, a rich couple recently had a son. One day the couple was sitting on the porch and chatting merrily. Amidst talks, the wife said,”Have you noticed, our son has a big birthmark on his forehead ? My mother says, this is the sign of greatness. He will be a minister in King’s court. “

“Nonsense ! Our family astrologer said, such birthmark defines the child will be a famous Doctor.” said the husband.

While both of them were arguing, a beggar came into the premises and asked for alms. The couple looked up and became silent. The beggar had the same mark on his forehead.

Did you like the story ? Watch for next Saturday(the Thursday Gks shifted to Sat)

Thank you for reading.Have a great day ! 🙂

Thursday GKs- “Sound”

I have long thought of doing something informational, a little learning with a little fun 🙂 No tough book stuff, just simple facts gathered from here and there that is General knowledge in bite size.
This week,I did some reading on Sounds and they did sound interesting 😉 Without further ado-
  • All different frequencies that the human ear can hear played at once, form the sound…. OOOMMMMMMM. This sound is referred to as the “sound of creation”. (Meditation is great !)
  • Melophobia is the fear of music !
  • If a human being yells for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days straight, he/she would produce enough sound energy to heat up one cup of coffee. ( Why do they do these experiments ? Renewable and free energy,I guess 😉 )
  • To determine how far away a thunderstorm is from you: Wait until you see lightning, then count 1-Mississippi, 2-Mississippi, etc. until you hear thunder, and divide by 5. The answer will tell you how many miles away the storm is from your location. (Did you just wish for a Thunderstorm ? 😉 )
  • The Loudest Sound till date is the Volcanic explosion in Islands of Krakatoa(near Indonesia) in 1883,creating Tsunami and massive destruction, the sound was heard in almost every part of the world !
Time for a mini Quiz,Answers in this Saturday Stories. Do join in as only you know what you guessed ! (No prior peeking/googling for answers 😛 )

Addition on later date-  Click here for Results
What do you think of this new segment, liked it, got bored ? Anything ? How often should I do it ? Once a week/2 weeks/month/none ?  I would be really glad to hear it from you 🙂

Memories From My Home 3

The third Segment of ‘Memories from my home’. Thank you for making this segment much loved and it fills my heart with joy when I know that you like my tiny hometown as well .

There were more pics of nature etc. but I thought of writing something else for a change. What do you think of the bull sculpture? Looks lively, isn’t it ? In the village(grandpa’s home),there are many small and smaller temples belonging to different deities. This sculptured bull is called ‘Nandi’ which serves as a ride for Lord Shiva and the temple is located in somewhat outskirts of village. It has few tiny temples, one main temple, a little garden and a small pond, quaint, right ?

DSCN1006

I am not sure if you know but Hindu temples require washing feet before you enter the temple but very less number of temples has natural ponds. The ponds not only serve the purpose but also add to picturesque.

Coming to the picture below,What the Old man is wearing lower half is what any age group of males used to wear till few decades back. Probably his is the last generation to dress in ‘dhoti’. It used to define an Indian till early 20th century.

DSCN1009 (2)

A brief praise about dhoti– Made of Pure extra-fine cotton, serves as an excellent natural AC in hot humid summer ;), mostly milky white color, so gives a clean formal feeling, dries up faster before you finish an episode from your daily soap opera . It is also used for wipe cloths for babies because of its superior quality and softness.

Caution for those who wear it- Look out for strong wind, tighten the knot strongly and try to not to get it caught in a nail, otherwise any of these can lead to losing your dignity 😛

DSCN1010

Ok,coming back to Nandi, these are sculptures made out of stone and are much simpler and smaller. But,they have shared a part of history of the temple for many decades and are still worshiped. It such a different feeling to see them as milestones in time 🙂

Next MFMH,I will take you back to the green fields and clear skies and some more interesting things/anecdotes. I hope you have enjoyed this segment of MFMH. If you want to know more about my rural adventures, you will find them in Memories from my Home 2 and Memories from my Home 1.

What do you think about this one ? 😀

The Fake Astrologer

Saturday Stories

Once upon a time, there was a very famous and wise Astrologer in a kingdom. Many people believed him to be a man who directly spoke to Gods.

Even the King and his subjects respected him and consulted him. On several occasions during a case hearing in royal court, the King secretly asked the astrologer, which of the two parties were guilty. And whoever the astrologer named, the King used to punish them.

Slowly, the astrologer grew greedy and started suggesting the case in favor of those who bribed him. The King came to know this and called him one day and said,” One of our ministers is accusing an important person in court of taking bribery, can you tell me if the minister is speaking the truth ? “

The cunning astrologer replied,” Yes sir, Once I offer special prayer to the Gods, they will tell me the truth” The king said,” Alright,if the minister is lying,I will give harsh punishment”. That night the minister met the astrologer in private and begged,” Oh wise one ! If you say the king that I am lying, he will wipe me out !” And with this he gave him a bag full of gold coins.

Next morning the astrologer met and told the king, ” Dear Sire, the minister is saying the truth. “

“Arrest this man !” roared the King. The astrologer was dumbstruck but managed to mumble,”What is my crime ?” The kind retorted,” The person whom the minister was accusing of bribery is YOU !”

Happy New Year 2015 !!!

DSCN0164 (2) - Copy

Yesterday was full of
Some happy party moments
With my dear old gems
The dawn today is about
Wishing hope and joys
To old and new friends

A bit foolish of me
That I forgot few names,
You understood and forgave
And we talked again about dreams

It is not a write up
To cover my tracks,
Thanks for reminding me
That you were always in my hearts

May the earth see greener pastures
May the humanity see love conquer over wars
May this New Year make all your dreams come true
Prosperity and joys be always with you. 🙂
