Brown Forks

A Visit To Botanical gardens.I almost stretched my neck beyond its elastic power! Luckily the Bonsai garden was relief to my aching neck.

The age of the trees dated even some thousand years back which was amazing. To stand in a place and see the world change around you year after year, what would you feel if you had almost an eternal life like theirs ?

This Tiny Bonsai was named as something ‘Serpent blah blah’ and indeed looked like a lazy serpent coiled around happily.Believe it or not it is around 2000 years old !

Making A Wallpaper

Love

Sometimes, when I am clueless about what to do,and I am extremely lazy even to find a paper to scribble or draw, drawing in MS Paint seems an easy option.I like to design my own wallpapers.I have no idea about digital painting except the name ! The only option remains is ‘trial and hit’ hoping lines and colors would be in the places I want them to or to cheat a little, using ‘spray paint’ option and it takes care of spilling 😉

I suggest to click on the picture itself. It looks better that way.

This was drawn in remembrance of Jammy,a pet parrot I had once, but that story will have to wait for another day… 🙂

Acid Attacks

Today-STOP ACID ATTACKS

(No random likes please)
Preface-Newspapers are mostly full of politics, problems and advertisements of every kind. Its really one of the best news I came across recently,5 Acid Attack survivors doing a photo shoot. A proud moment it was for them, the country and every other survivor of such mishaps. They dared to show what the society has tried to turn away their eyes from. Its time to realize the beauty that lies in them, to find the humanity within us.

Elegance

Where did I go wrong?
When I didn’t return the smiles of a 40 year man
I was hardly 15, had I no will of my own?

It happened one day
Returning to my home, with my friends
Chatting about the movie we just saw
Acting the parts of the heroine we loved
Yes,we were the beautiful and best in our dream world

And then he came, hollered some cruddy words,
I felt a splash on my face
The next moment my world started burning in pain

For years I was lost
No more dreams where I was the Miss World
As I struggled to find my lips,my nose,my hair

The words faded away,
I was hiding for it was meant to be
‘So sad’ is what they said in disgust and horror
before turning away

One day I woke up
To begin another day of exile
When suddenly I saw
Who were the ladies in the newspaper with all smiles?
Was it me or was another reflection?

I saw them laughing wearing those beautiful robes
How they posed like a movie poster
I couldn’t discern the lines anymore
For I felt years of anguish flowing through my tears

I opened my wardrobe
It took a while to find the forgotten treasure
I saw myself again in mirror, determined
The red, golden dupatta over my head
A smile escaped my lips
The reflection was a picture of elegance

The Rise

red-tail-black-cockatoo-dance-web

The sweet smell of success
like no other fragrance known,
when the goal is here
seems more radiant
than the sun of dawn…

Many times the feet faltered
Countless time I fell to get up,
The tear stains of yesterday
are still on my cheeks,
but yes finally
its with joy that the face beams…

Sometimes desolation and again longing
for parted friends and gone springs,
Heart heavy with things undone,
Alas!If a second chance could come..
Yet today the heart is light
with peace & delight
for if missed something
an assurance is there
that many good ones will come later..

If thorns pricked my feet
roses soothe them now,
If the mist prevailed
shades are clearing..
A realization comes to my mind,
If success gives a support
Failures test a human being….

Give Me Some Food

dajda164070

Beggars are a common sight in towns and cities. If 95% people in villages are thriving by working in some or the other way ,30% or more choose begging in towns and cities.I will not go into details of the socio-economic problem. Why I write about this today is to explicate what we think about the beggars.

This incidence took place few years back and perhaps for that one time I felt the difference in my thoughts towards beggars.Usually,in every bus station, traffic signals, outside offices and places of worships, one is almost pestered and overpowered by them to shell out some money. They ask for money in different pretexts, small children asking for contributing some unknown deity, women carrying infants etc .Its a trend now.

However, that rainy evening gave me a new insight.I was sitting in a window seat inside the bus,and in usual manner,a beggar tapped on my window.I was reluctant to open the door lest the rain drops will douse me.But,he remained there tapping and making signs asking for food.I opened the window shield and inquired.By then,I was prepared to give him some money so that he would stop bothering me.(Pardon me all who think I was rude but if you see the frequency of beggars with which we are hit every day at every traffic signal,it starts feeling like a farce and we become inured).

So,the beggar replied he has not eaten for 3 days and he will faint if he doesn’t get any food( a very common tactic). I offered him 5 rupees(usually people give 1-2 rupees) for the sake of giving. He denied and said I am really hungry and I cannot get a bowl of rice with this money.I was perplexed and annoyed at the thought that he is asking for so much money ! I offered him 20 rupees, may be he was really in dire need. His Answer gave me a shock and a surprise !

He said,”Ma(girls of any age are adoringly called that),I don’t need any money, please give me anything you have to eat,I am hungry and I need some food.” Something touched me deeply, and for the first time,I felt that he was not a beggar but a man in severe circumstances.I gave him the packet of cakes and biscuits I had and he blessed me and went away.

I will not say that my opinions towards beggars have changed much but I am willing to help anyone who genuinely needs it and has not taken begging as profession.(Believe me, the professional beggars earn a hefty sum everyday !)

Let me know, what you think of this ….Thanks for reading.

Sharing A Thought On Independence

india-independence-day-2014-6144859068956672-hp

August 15,2014,68th Independence Day, India. It fills me with pride that on this day the country was successful in breaking the shackles of subjugation, oppression, injustice against the common man. However, looking back, I feel it was the first and last time probably this impossible goal was achieved. Impossible because, in the last 68 years, these things that denizens had opposed against have taken a more legal form and the fetters are tighter than before.

Fighting against a foreign rule had united the country. People fought to save each other’s home. Now, those inside the country are fighting for power and money, who will oppose them? The disparity created on the basis of religion, caste and class has been nurtured by these evil forces and sadly the people themselves support these ideas. They would rather see their neighbor go down even if it means supporting another who doesn’t care a whit about them.

The legal form of oppression is now officially named as ‘Politics’. Personally, I don’t care if a leader is having a college degree or not as long as he/she has the ideas to improve the living of the public. Sadly, if we remove this minimum requirement to contest for an election, there are no criteria for ethical standards and that’s where the development caves in. Rather than working for the society, it’s an individual race to get more power, teaming with others to bring down some others. Favoring those people who have tons of money, businessman or industrialists or any such groups and support their standards of working which often creates anguish to common men. That’s where the subjugation comes in, nepotism, bribery are among the side products of such system.

68 years have passed and we are still a struggling economy marked by communal clashes and poverty displayed as our symbol to the world! We struggled to save our land, our wealth, our fraternity, and where did they go? I still feel under the rule of dictators under various social names, I ask myself what was the independence for! In recent times, there was a small group that started an educated move and engulfed the country with an urge to revolt against the dwindling ethics but it didn’t take long when this group disappointed the entire nation in relapsing and joining the same against whom the country was ready to fight.

Fortunately, it did some good changes in unopposed (hidden) monarchy of leadership and the country has started to make some progress. With this note, I would like to believe that may this change be permanent and the nation continues on the path of never ending progress and success.

A Handful of Sky

1

Many of us have captured the sky at different angles, different times, different seasons, different locations.Yet,I never get tired seeing every picture of it.A single entity with such diverse looks,it makes me mesmerized. My phone can’t capture the real view, but after so many days of cloud covered sky,I could finally see a partially cleared beautiful dusk with some kites flying (which you can’t see because of poor quality of picture).

Memories From My Home

bargarh2
Spending all my childhood and part of youth in my hometown,it never felt any different or special, but leaving it behind for another destination or to be precise for job and a new hectic life,I miss my hometown more than ever.
The trees which I never noticed while passing numerously under it,the bridges, the buildings, looking back they all feel like a beautiful memory to me worth treasuring.Though,I visit very less now,but looking at the pictures make me feel closer to home.Someone has said ‘Home is where is where heart is ‘. For me,its the other way around.
For all these years ,knowingly or unknowingly,I have gathered so many memories, that they are my only solace next to the real feel at home.
Taken on the banks of Mahanadi, the cloudy day with the balmy breeze was filling me with tranquility.

These pictures were taken in a Ram Fancy Competition in a small village called ‘Kumbhari’ near Bargarh,Odisha. The rams were dressed up and painted in different ways which looked funny but the enthusiasm of villagers was colossal.

Beauty lies in little things,we just have to look closer And yes,I found one….

Taken from a flower exhibition,I loved these blossoms, full of vigor, don’t you agree ?

Lazying around and gossiping with friends and then these little beauties capture my attention.

So frail and they blow away with a slightest wind. But these ephemeral beauties remain in my memories forever.

The Paper Memories

Stones

I saw him scribbling,

I wondered what ?

He said,I am pouring my heart out

May be I too should do that

I asked him

Who will listen to you ?

He said the paper took in all in

Where can I find a better absorber

I then pondered

What will happen to it ?

He said these thoughts came into my mind

imprinted on the paper

Tomorrow newer ones will come

I will be doing it over.

I asked again

this paper someday will perish

What if you don’t remember

He laughed and said

Thats what life means

You remember some, you will forget some

You shouldn’t mourn over the moments gone,

For there will be many more to garner.
